Ventilation and cooling:

The operation of the engine and the operation of the alternator heat the engine out of the engine room and improves the temperature of the room. Therefore, the ventilation of the generator room is required. It effectively controls the temperature of the engine room and provides the generator with cool and fresh air.

Good ventilation requires adequate air to flow in and out, and circulate freely in the room. Therefore, the engine room must be large enough to allow the air to circulate freely so that the air temperature in the engine room can be balanced and free of trapped air.

To allow fresh air to enter the engine room, there should be an open air inlet or vent to the other part of the building to allow adequate air to enter. In smaller rooms, air pipes can be used to pump air into the room or directly to the air intake of the engine. In addition, there should be a row of air vents open outside the wall so that hot air is expelled from the mouth.

The shutter shall be protected against wind and exhaust. These windows can be fixed, but they are best adjusted when the temperature is low. For automatic starting generators, the shutters are best operated automatically so that they are opened immediately when the engine is started.

Before calculating the size of intake air vents, the cooling air flow at the radiator and the static pressure generated by the fan at the rated load must be taken into account. Installed in the standard room, the heat emitted has been calculated in the radiator air flow. For those machines in which the radiator is installed in the distance, the cooling air flow is calculated by the total heat delivered by the engine, alternator and exhaust system to the surrounding space.

When the generator operates at rated power, the amount of cooling air required by the engine and alternator is specified in the specification document. After determining the air flow into the room, it is possible to calculate how large the ventilation inlet should be on the exterior wall.
